In February 2003, a class 156 DMU passes Station Road bound for Hexham. The crossing gates have been replaced and the signal box and footbridge removed. Behind the photographer stood Billingham station, first opened in 1841 and later known as Billingham Junction and then Billingham-on-Tees. A new station at Marsh House Avenue, known as Billingham, was opened on 28 April 1966 but has since been reconstructed and modernised. Old Billingham station closed in 1966 and was demolished in the 1970s.

The tower was built around 1969 and survives today, minus the distinctive blue stripes and ICI name. This April 1998 shots shows reconstruction work at the complicated A19/Haverton Hill Road/Portrack Road junction. The tower is rightly considered a Teesside landmark.

Port Clarence OS Map 1895
The map shows the R.C. chapel and school in 1895. What is now the A1046 Port Clarence Road is called Haverton Hill Road on this map. Clarence New Cottages, along with the church and school have been demolished. The Port Clarence Branch railway is still in limited use in 2025 via Billingham Junction. The railway embankment is still a prominent feature today.
