Key Notices
First Holy Communions: On Saturdays 6th and 13th June, the children made their First Holy Communion at Holy Rosary Church and at St John's. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.
Congratulations to the Staff and Pupils of St Paul's Primary School: The school recently had its Catholic Schools Inspection, and the report had high praise for it. It described St Paul's as a strong Catholic community where pupils and staff actively celebrate and promote the school's mission, with a positive, welcoming atmosphere in which every child is nurtured and encouraged. The report also recognised the great work of the teachers and support staff, noting their high expectations and their dedication to religious education. We are blessed with dedicated and committed staff and teachers in all our Catholic Schools here in Billingham; our thanks to them all.
Congratulations to Albie Rice: We extend our warmest congratulations to another of our young parishioners, Albie Rice, who is now nine years old. Amongst his other fundraising achievements, Albie has raised £1,200 for the Children's Ward at North Tees Hospital. The full story is now on the parish website.
A Hundred Years for Ziggy: The parish web page celebrating Ziggy's 100th birthday will go live very soon. Were you there? Have a look and see if you can spot yourself. Ziggy was so happy to have settled here in the UK.
Fr Damien: Fr Damien is back in touch from Rwanda, where your support is changing lives. Kaleb and Etienne are the first two, with more to come. You can read their stories on the website under Latest News.
Day for Life: On Sunday 21st June we mark the Day for Life under the theme "The Wonder of the Child in the Womb." The theme also recognises the loss of children who died before birth and the grief of their parents. The Bishops' message and prayers can be found on the Day for Life website at www.dayforlife.org. The second collection will go towards the Day for Life Fund, which distributes grants to organisations that promote respect for life from conception until natural death. You can also donate online via the Day for Life website.
Baptism Preparation Meetings: The next meetings are on 2nd July and 3rd September (the first Thursday of each month), both to be held in the Medway at 6.30 PM. There is no meeting in August.
Tea, Coffee and a Chat: Join us on Thursdays in the Medway at 11.00 AM for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. All are welcome.
Friendship Group: We meet every first Tuesday in the Medway at 6.30 PM. Everyone is welcome.
Your SVP: The Food Hub is open Fridays, 12.00 NOON to 2.00 PM in the Medway. Everyone is welcome. If you would like a visit or other help, phone 020 7703 3030 (option 2) or speak to one of our members after Mass.

Diocesan Property Trustee Vacancy: The Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle is looking to appoint a Trustee with property skills and experience. Chaired by the Bishop, the Board of Trustees provides leadership and sets the overall strategic direction of the organisation. Those with significant property, estates management and acquisitions experience, and a knowledge of charity law relating to land, are encouraged to apply. The role description and application form are on the diocesan website at https://diocesehn.org.uk/vacancy/diocesan-trustee/. The closing date is 26th June 2026.
Walsingham Pilgrimage: The balancing payment is now due and is £213.00 per person. Payments may be made by cash or cheque and given to either Callum Walker or Caroline Kelly; if you wish to pay by bank transfer, please speak to Callum or Caroline first. Cheques should be made payable to St Thomas of Canterbury. It would help greatly if payments could be received no later than Sunday, 21st June, 2026.
Music Matters: A Day of Reflection for Musicians at Ushaw College, Saturday 27th June 2026, 10.00 AM to 4.00 PM. A time to reflect on the liturgy and the role of music within it, how we sing the Mass and how we prepare for our service, and a chance to meet other musicians from the Diocese. There is a £7.50 charge for the day, which the parish will pay, so please sign the list at the back of the church so we know how many are going.
Newman Tyneside Circle: You are invited to hear Tom O'Loughlin speak on Luke 5:27-32 as a discipleship text, on Christian hospitality and the contemporary rejection of liturgy. The talk is in the hall of Holy Name Church, Jesmond, Newcastle, NE2 3JX, on Tuesday 14th July 2026 at 7.30 PM.
