The Bible in a Year
Have you ever wanted to read the Bible but felt overwhelmed by where to start? Alongside our parish streaming service, we are excited to offer a new resource on our website to help you engage with God's Word every single day. Father Adrian welcomes this addition to our site and recommends the podcast as a helpful way to deepen your faith, build a daily prayer habit, and better understand the Scriptures.
Changing Lives Worldwide since its launch, the podcast has had a profound spiritual impact. Listeners from all walks of life have shared how this simple daily habit has helped them:
Return to the Church after years or even decades away.
Start praying again and build a consistent, daily relationship with God.
Profoundly enrich their Catholic faith by finally understanding the full story of salvation.
A Truly Global Journey The Bible in a Year frequently ranks as the number one podcast in the world across all categories. It beautifully reflects the truly international nature of the Catholic Church, drawing together millions of listeners from all corners of the globe. While Father Mike brings a characteristically energetic American style to his presentation, his genuine ability to make ancient texts feel remarkably present and alive resonates universally.
Fully Faithful to Catholic Teaching for those wanting to ensure this material aligns perfectly with our faith, you can listen with complete confidence:
The Host: Father Mike Schmitz is an ordained, fully approved Catholic priest in good standing with the Diocese of Duluth.
The Publisher: The podcast is produced by Ascension, a highly trusted Catholic publisher recently chosen by the US Bishops to publish the new English translation of the Liturgy of the Hours.
The Translation: The podcast uses the Revised Standard Version Second Catholic Edition (RSV-2CE), a fully approved translation carrying an official Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat.
Following Along: While Father Mike reads from the RSV-2CE, you are entirely welcome to follow along with your own Bible at home, including the new Catholic UK edition (UK ESV Catholic Edition) that aligns seamlessly with the Lectionary we hear at Mass.
How It Works
Daily Episodes: The journey consists of 365 daily audio episodes, each lasting just 20 to 25 minutes.
The Content: Every episode features two or three scripture readings, a short, insightful reflection by Father Mike, and a guided prayer to help you apply the readings to your life.
The Structure: Rather than reading straight from Genesis to Revelation, the podcast uses the highly acclaimed 'Great Adventure Bible Timeline'. This approach groups the books into 14 historical periods, acting as a roadmap that makes it much easier to understand the central narrative of salvation history. However, you do not need this to follow the pod cast. Your own bible will be fine.
Whether you stream it at home, listen on your commute, or play it on your phone, this is a fantastic way to grow in your faith alongside fellow Catholics around the world.
