Whit Sunday: In English-speaking countries, Pentecost is often called Whit Sunday, a term derived from an early Church practice making the celebration of Pentecost similar to the Easter Vigil. A "Whitsun Eve" service was held where catechumens not baptised at Easter received the Sacrament, celebrated in a "Night watch" liturgy with six prophecies and a blessing of the baptismal font. The newly baptised would be vested in a white alb, symbolising their new birth in grace.
